About this deal

Popular brands include Hoya, Cokin, Kenko, Zeiss, Sigma, and many more. Some are designed to protect lenses against dirt, dust, or moisture, while others change the properties of light as seen by camera sensors, while yet others create special effects. Common filters used by photographers include: In the film days, they were used to prevent UV light from reaching UV-sensitive color film (though have basically no effect with our digital sensors). With filters being rather easy to counterfeit, I suggest purchasing them only from a reputable retailer to insure that you are getting the filter you expect. They're into resolution numbers, lab tests and really, they can see / measure the degradation, no matter how slight. In addition, I feel much more comfortable cleaning dirt off of a filter than I do from a very expensive lens.

And if you are on the fence in this decision, peace of mind can easily push you over the use-a-protection-filter side of the fence. Photo gear shops make good money on UV filters and bags. It's stuff they can sell in addition to the camera. Or give away as an enticement. They don't live in the desert, near the sea, live in a factory and don't have little ones - IF they venture into these environs THEN they will fit a filter. Digital sensors are unlike film. We used UV filters (light yellow tint) and Skylight filters (light pink tint) often. While film was sensitive to UV light, digital sensors are not and hence do not need UV filters in even bright sunlight Slim filters ship with an alternative slip-on friction-fit lens cap that, in my experience, is only one step above worthless.Ultraviolet (UV) haze filters: Reduce haze, and they're commonly left on the lens permanently as a lens protector

As mentioned above, the Nano version of this filter line includes B+W's best 8-layer MRC Nano coating.Binoculars Vortex Binoculars Canon Binoculars Swarovski Binoculars Hawke Binoculars Celestron Binoculars Nikon Binoculars Steiner Binoculars Zeiss Binoculars Binocular Accessories Some of Canon's lenses, including the EF 24-70mm f/2.8 II, 24mm f/2.8 IS, 28mm f/2.8 IS and 35mm f/2 IS, have a slightly curved front lens element. You don't need to use a cap. If you get dust it's easier to remove and flat filters are easier to clean. Hence you save more time. Breakthrough uses SCHOTT Ultrawhite B270 optical glass and a 16-layer multi-resistant coating to ensure its UV filters do not negatively impact image quality.

As I write this, UV filters are modestly less expensive than clear filters so I suggest going with the UV variant. Hoya's HD and HD nano filters are super tough and the coating on the HD nano resists damage from cleaning (if you manage to get a fingerprint on the OIL RESISTANT coating), unlike lens coatings, just designed for their glass. Results: well, I didn't see any difference in color or richness in the high-UV shot, so I wouldn't buy it just for that. Mostly, people buy these simply as lens protectors (and trust me, they've saved my bacon on a high-end lenses several times now!). As a lens protector, you want it to be as unobtrusive as possible and I am pleased to report that I can detect no significant difference with any test shot - color balance, sharpness, contrast - they all are so close that I could never say definitively that any minuscule difference was due to the filter.Every glass/air interface means there is just one more way to cause reflections and flare. That's why the better and more expensive filters are multi-coated. Take your UV filter off before attaching a circular polarizing filter or neutral density filter to your lens. But otherwise, I spent a lot of money for quality gear and I'm spending a lot of time photographing something that is important to me, so I'm not going to sacrifice my image quality by putting bad glass in front of my lens.
