About this deal

Allerdings muss man sagen, dass man "Script for a jester's tear" nicht einfach "nebenbei" hören kann. The drummer puts in a good performance, just markedly different to later albums which helps define this early, fragile sound. It's an astonishingly confident debut destined never to be bettered, but thankfully now given a remastered new life, with extensive notes from all involved in the booklet plus earlier material and demos collected on disc two.

e 7 minutes and over, including the subtle intricacy of 'The Web' and the powerful 'Forgotten Sons'. The band's 3rd album 'Misplaced Childhood' is, possibly, the most easily accessible of Marillion's early releases and is certainly worth checking out as well. Considering the band at this time was labelled Prog Rock, there was none of the over-the-top improvisation that the genre is normally given. In addition to that, the Blu-ray also includes the previously released Recital of the Script video and, as extras, promo films of some tracks from the album.

The recording sessions for the album started in December 1982 at The Marquee Studios in London and finished in February 1983, with Tauber producing and Simon Hanhart engineering.

One of my favourite albums the genius of Fishes lyrics and the guitarist Steve Rothery talent combined to make some fantastic songs. Beautifully crafted debut album from one of the leading lights of the (relatively) short-lived progressive rock revival of the 1980s. after a recent Marillion rebirth in my CD collection I'm now aquiring the full back catalogue of the 'early' (the best years in my opinion - sorry Steve H) albums. John Franck has given the album a retrospective rating of four-and-a-half stars out of five on AllMusic. In Martin Popoff's 2016 biography of Yes, the album is credited with being part of a "new wave" of British progressive rock which also helped to give a second life to earlier bands. I love this album as a whole: superb music, detailed lyrics and fantastic cover Artwork create a unified vision that Marillion had spent the proceeding few years creating. A new 180g heavy weight vinyl edition featuring a gatefold sleeve and the original artwork was released in 2012. In 2020, EMI released a deluxe version of the album with four CDs and a Blu-ray disc that contains new remixes of the original album, the full "Market Square Heroes" 12" single (except for the original version of "Market Square Heroes" which is replaced by the "Battle Priest" version), and a previously unreleased live set from 1982 at London's Marquee Club. EMI took advantage of the opportunity and persuaded the group to replace him with Nick Tauber, a producer known for his work with new wave band Toyah and regarded by the record label as more modern.

The album reached number seven and spent 31 weeks in the UK Albums Chart, eventually achieving a platinum certificate, and produced the Top 40 single " He Knows You Know" and the Top 20 single " Garden Party". To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Script for a Jester's Tear was released in the United Kingdom on 13 March 1983 by EMI on vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve. Singer Fish plays the role of misunderstood poet to perfection, his bedsit anguish memorably realised by sleeve artist Mark Wilkinson. Ich habe die Originalpressung seit unzähligen Jahren in meiner CD-Sammlung stehen und habe mir nun auch den 2020-Stereo-Remix dazu gegönnt.said that "as a debut album this [ Script for a Jester's Tear] is extremely impressive, fully living up to the band's previous promise". The lyrics from Fish are more playful on tracks like "Garden Party" than on later albums, and his extremly wordy anecdotes telling the story of "The Web" are the most florid and grandiose Marillion ever got! In the title track a convoluted web of lyrical imagery invests its prosaic lost-my-girlfriend theme with a tortured passion previously alien to prog rock.

I have to admit I did not follow the band after Fish left because for me, Marillion became a more commercial Indy band, but I do respect they have still gone on to have an admirable career but this record for me will always have a corner of my musical heart, as I explored the music as I matured. It was produced by David Hitchcock, who was also contracted to work on the group's first full-length album.
