About this deal

Her tart tongue and independence intrigue him as much as her looks but he knows their attraction can only lead to pain. I wonder how many noticed that Claire and James Fraser (from the Outlander series) were mentioned in "Into the Wilderness" story. In contrast; in Diana Gabaldon’s books I am never totally easy with domestic scenes – whether they be on the mountain or Lallybroch.

In this captivating book about sin, Kenneth Swanson acknowledges human brokenness and our inability to reverse the cycle of sin and self-absorption unless we turn to the God who created us in his image and loves us.

Y., after a sheltered life in England with her titled aunt, she means to live with her father, Alfred, a judge, and her wastrel brother, Julian, and teach school. But a deeper understanding of sin demands three additional categories: fear, dishonesty, and despair. Even though the mention of Outlander characters was fun, it may have caused more problems for Donati than she expected.

Well, to be precise, she asked me about the two-paragraph bit in which she refers to Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian as though they were real historical characters (she doesn't "use" them _as_ characters in her book), and I said sure, I thought that would be funny; let's see if anybody notices. Diana is on the forum almost every day, and often responds to questions or comments from forum members, sometimes in detail. She joins her father at his holdings in Paradise and quickly discovers that plans have already been made for her.Nathaniel wants Judge Middleton's land, too, for his adoptive people--but, unlike Todd, he also wants Lizzie for herself. Now, I can see why it'd have been marketed as such, but out there are many people who'll also be pushed away by this, as I was.

Robbie, Bears, Hannah and all of the characters that made this journey come to fruition has been amazingly captured by Donati, she is special and I'm sorry this has been a first for me from her but I can assure you all, won't be my last. I went ahead and read all the plot summaries of the other books so now I know, but I just don’t feel I have it in me to make that sort of investment, at least not right now (they are all 600-plus pages). I thought the descriptions of nature and the wilderness through which they traveled were well done, but it was hard to keep my attention on the story past the halfway point of this book. Elizabeth and Nathaniel have a number of adventures, both separately and together, but I never really felt drawn into their lives on an emotional level, the way that I do when reading Diana Gabaldon's books.Claire, Jamie, and their nephew Ian are actually alluded and then toasted to about 100 pages into Wilderness. In the sudden peace that follows the storm, as families struggle to rebuild, childhood friends Martha and Daniel, Lily’s twin brother, suddenly begin to see each other in a new light. Whereas in ‘Outlander’ Black Jack Randall is a truly masochistic villain – he is a very clear bad guy to Jamie Fraser’s good guy. Donati’s acknowledgements come before the story, in which she showers thanks upon Gabaldon for helping her with it. Not only does Swanson articulate all the ways we are enslaved by sin, but he also actually offers a way to break the cycle through the penitential rite and forgiveness.
