This is a UK paperback first printing of this title published by New English Library in 1988 AND SIGNED BY JAMES HERBERT WITH INSCRIPTION TO PAUL. Although I hate to feel like I can so easily forgive such gross Political Incorrectness in favor of a cheap thrill. Herbert has managed to produce another outstanding novel here, with a dark tale of corruption and despair.

Violence, madness, corruption and debauchery lie at the heart of the mystery and the main character Halloran seems the only man who can get to the bottom of it all and try to save the day.Although the characterisation is somewhat undeveloped and wooden, Herbert manages to mask this to a certain degree by maintaining these strong personal traits (such as the constant ingrained professionalism) to maintain some degree of basic characterisation. Alone on the top floor, in the near-total darkness of the White Room, Kline's psychic affectation of giant cockroaches gives Quinn-Reece fatal heart failure.

Additional Arabic bodyguards patrol the area, their presence and barefaced denial of speaking or understanding the English language another mystery in itself. Naturally she has sex with Halloran, which is very rapey however that's ok as Halloran figures she enjoyed it.
