About this deal

Everyone gets to be a part of Warhammer 40,000 history this weekend, as the Leagues of Votann make their triumphant return to the galaxy. Arriving on the battlefields of the 41st Millennium with a chunky army set featuring everything you need to get started with this formidable new range. There are many more weapon types such as HYlas and Ion weapons, plasma axes and swords, concussion and mass gauntlets. These are all Kin versions of weapon types that exist in other 40k armies though their characteristics may differ. Nightbringer , the first book in the Uriel Ventris Chronicles, gets the lavish 20th-anniversary edition treatment. Newly promoted to lead the Ultramarines’ fourth company, Ventris is sent to the planet Pavonis to repel Drukhari raiders. Can he deal with them, the political turmoil and a plot to awaken a great evil buried deep beneath the planet’s surface?

At the heart of every League is a Votann Ancestor Core, an immeasurably powerful and ancient artificial intelligence system that contains millennia of accumulated lore and knowledge. These cores are at the centre of the Leagues’ society, the sum total of their culture and science. Joshua has given us a testing selection of Hearthkyn Warriors – one for each Clan. This prismatic coalition shows off the variety of colours and approaches that can be taken with the Leagues of Votann, with some wonderfully crisp work. Alison Kersley All models are supplied with their appropriate bases. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel paints.

Warhammer 40k 10th edition Leagues of Votann

Sometimes, the best way to cut down Traitors is with a sword nearly as big as the Space Marine wielding it. Corswain is a legendary Dark Angels champion who wields his signature weapon – known simply as The Blade – with impeccable skill, and exemplifies the stalwart determination that his Legion is famed for. He’s also proper tasty in a fight. This spectacular resin model comes with a choice of hooded or helmed heads. Death Guard Legion Praetor The Kin who make up the Leagues are a cloned race. All the Kin are genetically engineered to be stronger, hardier and shorter than the human baseline, and generally to be resistant to the effects of the warp. The Warhammer 40K Leagues of Votann are an aggressive force bolstered by strong shielding and defense, and have both potent ranged and melee capabilities. We'll dive into each of the units included in the Army Set in the next section, but I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of their rules that really stand out. Choosing A League First – and by far most importantly – there are plenty of female-presenting heads for the new Squats. You’re not limited to having all your Squats as big beardy blokes if you don’t want them to be. As a general rule, you can spot the female-presenting heads from the male-presenting heads by their absence of beards and slightly smaller noses.

The article also shows the Reactive Reprisal stratagem for the Oathband. For 2CP this allows a Votann unit to return fire after it’s shot at by an enemy unit with Judgment tokens on it. Kin society is organised around the Leagues– powerful trade and defence alliances between several Kindreds and their Holds– and the Guilds, professional organisations of technicians, merchants and engineers that unite Kin society. There’s not much exciting about them, but they serve their purpose. Assign one, two, or three of these little cardboard pieces to any unit that’s earning the ire of your Squats.

Bonus: New Necromunda Models and Sourcebook

Though they resemble squat, sturdy humans, theVotannculture and even their genetic code hasdiverged from humankind, shepherded by the mysterious influence of their ancient Votann computers – hence the title ‘Leagues of Votann’. And, despite their common, Terran, ape ancestry, the Kin have no love at all for the Imperium of Man or the Emperor of Mankind. We’ll have a closer look at each individual part of this box in a moment. Leagues of Votann Army Set – Review and Miniatures First Look – Contents Meanwhile, the modular design of Kin weaponry, and the layered armour plates of Exo Armour, resemble technology we’ve seen on House Van Saar models, something the Necromundan gangers can only create using a secret, highly radioactive, STC system. In the heavyweight category, Einhyr Hearthguard wear Exo-Armour suits that make Terminator and Gravis armour look like a light windcheater. These folks are very good evidence for the idea Warhammer 40k is all about mean looks and big shoulders. Lore nuts and fans of the old-school Warhammer 40k Squats will find much to get excited about in these miniatures. Some of it’s obvious, like the Hernkyn Pioneers referencing Squat Trike riders. Subtler nods include the mirror shades and earrings on some Hearthkyn heads giving them a Rogue Trader‘hairy biker’ look, or the rounded carapace of Hearthkyn Void armour that recalls egg-shaped Squat Exo-Armour.

I know. Of course, it’s supposed to resemble a stone-like, scarred texture, ta give ye the feel this wee chappie’s got sum o’ tha’ real dwarven grit aboot ‘im. But unfortunately, the meringue can’t be unseen. Customise your Mark VI Blood Angels Space Marines with these resin heads – nine helmeted, one bare head, and a swish haloed Sergeant’s helmet. Described by GW as “living battering rams” clad in “modified exo-armour fitted with mass-drivers”, the fearsome Einhyr Championleads the equally heavily armed Einhyr into battle. As of release (24th September 2022), the Leagues of Votann Army Box is the only place to get the new faction. You’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for further faction-related announcements. There are many other outlets out there more qualified to speak about rules than us, so a brief run-down of why this little table has rustled everyone’s jimmies is as follows: Leagues have an army-wide rule called Judgement of the Ancestors that allows all units to automatically wound their targets on successful hit rolls. Depending on how mad your Squats are with their foes (or, to put a fine point on it, the more Judgement Tokens assigned to a unit), the minimum value required to automatically wound their enemies drops from 6, to 5, and then to 4. Another model in the Character Department, the Brôkhyr Iron-master is here with a crew of Ironkin. Space Marine Techpriests might want to take a few notes from this member of the Leagues. Grimnyr There’s much profit to be found in the esoteric salvage secreted aboard these rotting void-barges – and you can acquire it for the glory of your own Hold with five cybernetically-enhanced Cthonian Beserks, five diamond-hard Einhyr Hearthguard, and 10 geared-up Hearthkyn Warriors, all led by a proud Einhyr Champion.
