The Bullet That Missed hits on every front. Its quandaries stymie, its solutions thrill, its banter is worth reciting and its characters exemplify an admirable camaraderie. One can only hope that the Thursday Murder Club’s next outing appears before long.” Bourton said: “Since the launch of his debut in 2020, Richard Osman has been entertaining millions of readers around the world who have taken his characters into their hearts. Of course there are plenty of lighter moments to make you laugh out loud. The criminals are almost loveable rogues, accepting of the adage 'live by the sword, die by the sword, juxtaposed with a conversation about the family or new business ventures. The terrifying Connie, residing in prison, lives a life of luxury whilst running her drug business and being counselled by Ibrahim. The pair form an unlikely bond. The Thursday Murder Club is the debut novel by Pointless and House of Games presenter Richard Osman, and is the first installment in his "Thursday Murder Club" series. It was published on 3 September 2020 by Viking Press, a subsidiary of Penguin Random House. He wrote this novel in secret as he worked his other jobs before he sprung it on eager agents. In all, it took him eighteen months to write it. He gave it a month, then thought he quite liked it. Richard was doing a little bit less producing, and an idea came to him when he had the time and some discipline. The fourth book in the series, currently untitled, will publish in September 2023, with the Thursday Murder Club to return in subsequent adventures. With no spoilers and for those that know the series; Ibrahim's story in Chapter 72 is so beautifully written as is the continuation of Stephen's which has run through the series. As someone living with a partner with a type of dementia it really hit home. Told with such insight I lived this book! He was born with nystagmus, an eye condition that significantly reduces his vision, he memorizes entire scripts since this condition makes it tough to read an autocue. Richard might be the one that provides all of the missing Pointless answers yet he is not involved in writing the questions and claims he isn’t as brainy as some might think. He is good at doing quizzes and words and he has a good memory. Since he cannot see very well, he has had to listen a ton and take in information very well.

The Guardian described it as the "fastest selling adult crime debut" in recorded history. [1] Adaptations [ edit ] As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn't that be a bonus? Flood, Alison (22 December 2020). "Richard Osman becomes first debut author to land Christmas No 1". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 22 December 2020 . Retrieved 22 December 2020. Osman follows The Bullet That Missed with a bittersweet mystery about the problems facing many older people: dementia, computer fraud, death. Humor does, however, alleviate the poignancy inthis strongest, most emotional book in the best-selling series.” There may be other aged detectives in print and on television, but for wit, intelligence and humanity, the Thursday Murder Club outranks them all.”

A new Thursday Murder Club book always makes me happy. This the 4th book in this fun series and ai have grown quite attached to this gang of elderly sleuths. When I get old I want to move to Coopers Chase and solve murders too. The mysteries are complex, the characters vivid, and the whole thing is laced with warm humor and—remarkably, considering the body count—good feeling. Your next must-read mystery series.” Osman added: “I’m so thrilled to be writing more Thursday Murder Club books at Viking, the gang couldn’t wish for a happier home. And I’ve been secretly excited for a while now about my new series, which I think readers will love. More details soon, I promise, but for now here’s a toast to more Joyce, Elizabeth, Ibrahim and Ron, and to some brand-new friends too.” Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club are concerned. A decade-old cold case leads them to a local news legend and a murder with no body and no answers. Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He's made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.

Richard Osman to embark on new series of crime novels

Osman doesn’t disappoint… Everything is here that fans of the series have come to expect: humour, warmth, the confounding of expectations as these pensioners investigate… Along with the laughs, there is grief, and an ending that is handled sensitively (I was weeping)… We all need a regular injection of the Thursday Murder Club to keep our spirits up.” Osman's inspiration for the book came from a visit he made to an upmarket retirement village. [1] He wrote the book over 18 months in secret. [2] But even the new characters we have not had the chance to build an understanding of manage to be well-rounded. And if not sympathetic then at least interesting and understandable. As the cold case turns white hot, Elizabeth wrestles with her conscience (and a gun), while Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim chase down clues with help from old friends and new. But can the gang solve the mystery and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again? Opening the new Osman is like sitting down to dinner with treasured friends you know are going to kill you - deliciously!' PETER JAMES This book managed to do something that only 1 or 2 others have ever managed before in my lifetime of reading (50+ yrs) - it made me cry - and more than once. Having said that, I also laughed out loud through it as well (a few more have managed that).
