It did take me a little bit to get fully into the characters and writing style, but the story concept had me from the first page. Your mind is telling you to punch him while your heart (and body) is telling you to just say "yes sir". The world the author paints is rich and unique, and we are given all of the backstory without it ever feeling exposition-heavy. The author did an incredible job at channeling the angst we all know and love while also creating an incredibly original frame for her story.

With aspects of Howl's Moving Castle and even a touch of Harry Potter, this story has so much more then just a Beast trying to get a Beauty to fall in love with him. Cassie’s storytelling is bursting with vivid imagery, dynamic characters, and pulse-pounding plot twists.Some people seem to respect him as a powerful wizard, and others that don’t like him are involved in his “payment” so they’re biased.

Lisane is a lovely damsel in distress who isn’t a pushover, she just comes from wretched circumstances. I loved this author's writing style and omg, that ending was WILD; I will absolutely be continuing with this series! I needed space—he was everything I hated and he made me hurt—but somehow he also made me magical, and I didn’t understand. Also I've got to say that I've read many books with different animal side characters but Finx the spider cat stole the show!The rest of it is “training” and Lisane never reacts in a positive way where she enjoys it so to me it just reads as abuse. As such, this bad guy reputation feels unfounded and he comes off more like a caring parental figure that gets angry sometimes… and justifies abuse as “training”.
